While vehicle recalls show carmaker’s urgency for technical concerns and safety which do increase our confidence in them, also raise eyebrows as why such problem occurs in the first place. Rather than taking it in a negative manner, these recalls suggest that carmaker is still evaluating its products and maintaining the quality standards of the product high.

Last month SsangYong issued a recall of Rexton SUV manufactured before September 2014 to fix the faulty rear driveshaft. Now SsangYong’s parent company Mahindra has recalled two of its SUVs-new Gen Scorpio and NuvoSport.

India’s leading SUV manufacturer will recall both models for a pro-active inspection of fluid hose-manufactured until June 2016. The carmaker hasn’t disclosed the number of vehicles under the campaign but shared that inspection and rectification, if required will carried out free of cost.

Mahindra’s authorized dealers will get in touch with affected customers directly. In the meantime, customers can whether their vehicle is a part of recall or not by visiting Scorpio’s and NuvoSport websites.

Mahindra-NuvoSport

Launched in September 2014, Mahindra Scorpio has been selling well and it is powered by a 2.2 litre mhawk diesel engine producing 120bhp@4000rpm and 280Nm of torque between 1800-2800rpm. Transmission duties are taken care by a 5-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Despite getting new moniker and new design, NuvoSport still lies at the bottom when it comes to sale numbers. The Sub 4m compact SUV is powered by a 1.5litre mHawk diesel engine that develops 100bhp@3750rpm and 240Nm of torque@1600-2800rpm linked to a 5-speed manual transmission.

In the coming years, government is looking to introduce a mandatory recall policy under which manufactures will be doomed to announce a recall in proper manner and solve the dilemmas in the products on their own and they will be solely responsible to give customer a complete fault less product.

Mahindra & Mahindra said, “As an endeavor to ensure a hassle free experience for its customers, the company is proactively carrying out this activity. This action is also in compliance with SIAM’s voluntary code on vehicle recall,”
