Land Rover has announced that it will be launching the successor of ageing Freelander 2 in India on 2nd September 2015. The new Discovery sport will be launched in India and dealers are now officially taking bookings for the premium SUV. The Land rover discovery was spotted undergoing test on Indian shores quite a few times in last month or so. The CKD assembly operation of the new member in discovery series is on full swing at company’s Pune plant in Maharashtra.

Since it will be sold via CKD operation, we can expect a very competitive price of the new SUV around Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Flaunting as world’s most versatile SUV, received new styling and host on interior features. We expect hug demand of Discovery sport as it will rival against Volvo XC60, Audi Q5 and BMW X3, all of these comes in five seat configuration while the new SUV will have ‘5+2’ seating arrangement.

The new Land Discovery sport is a blend of Freelander 2 and old discovery in terms of styling, the funky Xenon headlamp cluster with conventional LR front grille and muscular stance makes it a typical Land rover car. At rear, it sports new arc reactor LED tail lamps. The highlighting point of new discovery sport is its lighter build thanks to a larger percentage of aluminum used in its construction.

Considering the Land Rover tag, the comfort features will be also on the luxurious side like it will get a panoramic sunroof, new Incontrol touchscreen system, dual zone climate control, USB charging sockets, front seats with electric adjustment, leather upholstery etc.

The SUV comes with 4599mm in length, 2173mm in width; 1724mm height and wheelbase of 2741mm and ground clearance of 212mm ensure its SUV-ish stance. The large dimensions combined with eye-soothing design makes it fresh and appealing.

Under the hood will be a 2.2l diesel engine churns out a 178bhp of power while the 2.0l petrol engine produces 250PS power. Both the engines will be paired with a six speed manual and nine speed automatic gearboxes with AWD drive, parking assist, terrain response as standard.
