Audi wants to maintain the top spot in India as long as possible so it will bring close to 10 new models in 2015 and one of them will be the S5 Sportback. Currently Audi sells RS5 coupe in India but this new S5 Sportback is a 5-door conventional luxury sedan similar to A7 and RS7. The S5 Sportback will be placed between S4 which was introduced in June 2012 and S6 which was launched in July 2013.
Currently Audi RS5 is powered by a 4.2L V8 petrol engine that develops 444bhp power and 430Nm of peak torque though S5 Sportback will get power from 3.0L V6 TFSI petrol mill which is good enough to produce 328bhp of peak power and 440Nm torque paired to a 7-speed S tronic gearbox with power sent to all four wheels via Quattro system.
This powerful contains enough grunts to reach 0-100 km mark in 5.1 seconds with 250 km/hr as top speed.
In international markets S5 is available in different body styles like Coupe and convertible but for India it will be available as 5-door conventional sedan with larger boot.
S5 comes with more conventional and sport design with subtle curves and slopping roofline along with long hood. This stylish S5 Sportback to get LED headlamps with daytime running lights, 5-spoke 18 inch alloy wheels, large chrome grill with Audi’s logo, silver-grey outer view mirrors, S- sports suspension and rear side to carry the conventional design terminology of RS 5 with almost similar LED tail lights, only difference would be the larger boot.
The key factor will be the price so expect Audi to price it around 65-70 lakh (ex-showroom) so considering the price S5 might not deliver huge sales numbers but will take the legacy and product line further up for the number one car maker in India currently.
Audi S5 will take against the likes of BMW 5-series, Mercedes E class and Audi A6 according to the price bracket.
