Maruti has enjoyed the success of its entry-level hatchback Wagon-R since its launch but now seems like the small Wagon-R is losing its touch. When this hatchback was launched in India, it received highly no. of appreciation and an impressive sales figure. As time changes and so does the people’s choice, now there are plenty no. of other same segment models which are attracting the buyers and giving a rub shoulder fight to this ordinary looking car.

Hence, by seeing the demand of Indian automobile industry and to bring the Wagon-R’s charm back, company is planning to equip it with a diesel mill as well. This new diesel variant might come with a facelift Wagon-R and its expected launch is said to be in October 2014.

Note: The mentioned facts here are yet to be confirmed by the company and hence could be changed by the launch.

    Price:

The Wagon-R diesel will be costlier than its petrol trims obviously and might carry the price tag of around 3.25-4.75 lakhs.

    Engine details:

The smallest diesel engine which Maruti Suzuki has is a 1.3 liter Multijet which is running currently in its Swift hatchback. Though, the expectations are, this same engine will make its presence in Wagon-R as well but as per the size of Wagon-R, this engine seems a bit bigger.

Therefore, it is also possible that Maruti Suzuki might take the 1.0 liter 3-cylinder diesel unit similar to the ongoing Chevy Beat. Though, these are just rumors till the company will officially announce something in this matter. The diesel engine of ongoing Chevy Beat is developing 59bhp of max output and 150Nm of peak torque.

    Space & Dimension:

Reportedly, there are no changes in its space as well as dimensions. It is a five seater small hatch which is same 3599mm long, 1495mm wide and 1700mm tall along with wheelbase of 2400mm.

    Interior & Exterior:

Well, as we think that the Wagon-R seriously needs a renovation by a big leap. Its outside glimpse just looks so outdated but now it’s not possible to change the look of car completely. So if this small hatch diesel will come with a facelift version too then we at least can expect for some updation in its exterior and interior. Keeps your fingers crossed.

    Verdict:

Needless to say that it is really a clever strategy by company as diesel models are being appreciated comparatively more in India now-a-days. Now, it would be interesting to see whether refined Wagon-R will make the car popular as before or not.
