Maruti Suzuki, the biggest seller of cars in India is known for its affordable pricing. Maruti revolutionized the entire Indian Car industry.  Right from its days of Maruti 800 to the latest Ertiga , the car maker never fails to utilize any loop or business chances in the market . Chevy is known for its excellent make and has managed to create a strong base in India.

Maruti Suzuki Stingray is the update of Wagon R, the family car from Maruti which was aggressively marketed and in spite of its ‘not so great’ performance managed to be one of the most sold car from Maruti. The new hatchback is positioned in the small car segments to compete with cars like Chevy Spark, i10, Ford’s Figo and the Indica eV2.  The basic design is very much similar to the Wagon R. But the Stingray packs inside it, loads of improvements and new features. Chevy Spark has been one of the bestselling Compact cars from GM and has managed to impress the Indian car buyers with its vibrant and youthful look.

The Spark features an engine displacement of 995cc while the Stingray comes with 998cc; both the cars have similar displacements. The Spark displays a maximum power of 62.1bhp@5400rpm while the Stingray has a peak power of 67.7bhp@6200rpm. The Spark has a max torque of 90 nm @ 4200 rpm which is almost similar to Stingray’s 90 Nm @ 3500 rpm. There is nothing much to differentiate the cars engines and both the cars have similar engine specs. The only notable difference is the fuel tank capacity; Spark has a fuel capacity of 38 litres while Stingray comes with a 35 litre fuel tank. Both the cars don’t come with a diesel variant.  The Stingray claims to have a mileage of 20.51kmpl and the Spark has a mileage of 16.2kmpl.

The Maruti Wagon R stingray has a premium feel to it and the interior design resembles the existing version of Wagon R. It incorporates a stylish dashboard which has the A.C controls and the music system. The interior have got silver layouts at the Steering wheel and the plastic feels decent. The door trims are elegantly designed and have got dual toned look which combines matte black and a gloss rich finish. The car has got a sufficient boot space and doesn’t feel cramped. Chevy Spark has got very basic interiors, the dashboard looks stylish and the plastic feels decent. Despite being a small car, Spark has got a spacious and comfortable cabin. The digital tachometer is stylish and gives a plush touch to the decent interiors.

Stingray looks very identical to Wagon R in exterior design with few modifications. The bumpers at the front and the fog lamp housings have bold designs. The alloy-wheels give the car a stylish look. Chevy Spark is a good looking car and the design statement in itself is inspirational. The new face lifted spark has got a honeycomb grille and an enlarged chevy logo which adds icing to the already good looking Spark. Chevy Spark is one of trendiest looking cars and has a contemporary, trendy and vibrant feel to it.

Stingray may be a new variant from Maruti Suzuki, but Maruti Suzuki knows how to play it right, it is known for its aggressive marketing strategies whereas Chevy Spark has been in the market for a while and has gone down well with the Indian car buyers

Final verdict:

Both the cars have similar performances and there is not much to compare in terms of engine efficiency. Priced in the range 4.18-4.75L, Stingray costs slightly more than Chevy Spark which is priced between 3.33-4.16L. Spark is for people who think design matters the most and love being among the trendy lot whereas the Stingray is for the loyal Maruti Suzuki buyers.
