Maruti Suzuki Ciaz to get ISOFIX mounts as standard

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is currently the best seller in C-segment and it locks its horn against Honda City, Hyundai Verna and Volkswagen Vento. In order to make its mid size sedan safer by incorporating ISOFIX mounts as standard across the range. This feature will enhance safety aspect for child occupants. Currently, Honda City comes with ISOFIX mounts as standard on all trims. This move could be result of BNCAP (Bharat New car Assessment Programme) which will be mandatory from October 2017.

What is ISOFIX?

ISOFIX is a child car seat attachment system which utilizes metal bar connectors built into chassis of the car to link to the child seat and tether straps to ensure proper security. ISOFIX can hold a combined weight of 33 kg. Once child is strapped inside the seat mounts can hold seats in any position minimizing the risk of injury even in case of an accident.
Apart from new ISOFIX mounts, Ciaz also boards dual front airbags, Anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic brake force distribution (EBD) on the entry level variant. Other features include reverse parking camera, seat belt pre-tensioner with force limiters, reverse parking sensor, seat belt buzzer for driver, engine immobilizer and anti-theft system etc.
Maruti Ciaz offers best in class space and comes equipped with two engines-1.3l DDis SHVS diesel and 1.4l Petrol. The oil burner diesel can deliver 89bhp@4000rpm and 200Nm of torque while petrol can churn out 91bhp power@6000rpm and 130Nm of peak torque@4000rpm.
Maruti Suzuki India said, “Continuing the strong focus and early adaptability to the safety norms prescribed by the Government, we are making the CIAZ complaint to BNVSAP (Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program) by implementing ISOFIX.” It further states, “ISOFIX is an international standard for attachment points for child safety seats in passenger vehicles. It would help in providing a more secure and easier way of attaching child seats in Ciaz.”
