Jeep Compass officially unveiled; launch in July 2017

Jeep has finally taken the covers off the compact SUV Compass ahead of its launch in India. The brand has also announced that the SUV will enter the production by June at its local manufacturing plant in Ranjangaon. The official launch is expected in the early third quarter of this year. The company has invested around $280 million in the Compass project. Thanks to higher localisation, expect it to price in a range of Rs. 17-20 lakh (ex-showroom) and will compete with Hyundai Tucson and Skoda Yeti.

For India, Jeep compass will be available in a 1.4l Multiair turbocharged petrol engine that makes 162PS power and 250Nm of torque. Diesel segment will be taken care by a 2-litre engine that belts out 170PS power and 350Nm of torque. Both engines will be available with 6-speed manual gearbox as standard along with 7-speed automatic gearbox. The SUV is claimed to hit a ton in less than 10 seconds with a top speed around 200 km/hr.

The Compass will be made available in three variants – Sport, Latitude and Limited. The Jeep Compass is 4398 mm long, 1819 mm wide and 1667 mm tall. It sits on a 2636 mm long wheelbase and offers a ground clearance of 178 mm. The SUV will be available in a five-seat configuration with 60:40 rear seat split.

The Baby Cherokee flaunts vertically slated 7 slat front grille with projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, beefy front bumper, and clamshell bonnet. The side gets 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, thick C-pillars and flared wheel arches. Interior will be characterised by a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with apple car play and Android auto, auto climate control, premium leather upholstery with perforated leather seats, three colour theme and contrast stitching on leather steering wheel etc.

Safety will be taken care by six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, electronic rollover mitigation, cornering fog lamps, traction control, all disc brakes, reverse parking camera and much more.

At the SUV’s unveiling, Mr Kevin Flynn – President and Managing Director, FCA India said, “The local production schedule of the Jeep Compass is firmly on track and we are all set to begin local production of the Jeep brand’s Global SUV by June this year. The Jeep Compass will come with several industry-first features and will set benchmarks in the Indian SUV space.”
