Ford India recalls 20,752 Eco Sports to rectify fuel line corrosion

Ford India on Tuesday has recalled over 20,000 units of its top selling model Eco Sport to cure concern over fuel and vapor line corrosion in the long term and Ford India will also check the wiring harness for the correct deployment of side airbags. This recall is for the variants which are made at company’s Chennai plant manufactured between January 2013 and September 2014.

This recall is a part and parcel of 34,132 global recall for the same reason out of which 8666 units are affected with wire harness manufactured at the company’s plant at China. Ford has already started contacting the customers and asking them to take their vehicle to nearest dealer.

“Ford is writing to customers and asking them to contact their local Ford dealer so that the necessary rework can be carried out free of cost,” the company said.

This is the second recall by Ford in the span of one month; on 21st November 2014 Company has recalled 3072 units of its sedan Fiesta to replace faulty part of waterproof glow plug control module manufactured between October 2010 and December 2011.

This is the second recall of Eco Sport as well before this Ford India in July 2013 following the replacing spree 972 diesel variant of Ford Eco sport has been recalled for the same, total 1.28 lakh units in 2012 were recalled and 1.66 lakh units in 2013 of Ford Fiesta and classic has been recalled by Ford to resolve power steering and suspension issues.

Ford Eco sport is available between 6.46-9.5 lakh comes with two petrol and a diesel engine coupled to both manual and automatic transmission.

Ford India Sold around 12,762 units in domestic sales including exports in the month of November 2014 against 12,050 vehicles in the same month of last year. Ford exported 7101 vehicles compared to 4141 vehicles a year ago while its domestic sales were at 5661 units showing a little dip compared to 7909 units in same month of last year.

Ever since the auto industry body SIAM started the voluntary vehicle recall for safety related issues in India in July 2012, over seven lakh vehicles have been recalled by various manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, M&M, Honda, Nissan etc.
