G.M has a long way to go before it impacts the Indian Entry level Sedan market big time.

Engine Details:

Though both the cars have a similar engine and on the papers they may have similar numbers. Dzire has a better practical performance. The refresh Dzire, in a 1.2-litre petrol Series motor produces 83.2BHP of power and a maximum of 115 Nm torque. The Chevrolet Sail with a similar, a 1.2-litre Petrol engine powers out a slight better output of 85 BHP and 113 Nm of Torque.

The Diesel engine specifications of the both the cars are exactly similar they produces same amount of 74 BHP power and 190Nm torque. The Specs are pretty much similar but the Sail weighs about 198 pounds heavier than the Dzire.

The Maruti Suzuki has displayed its expertise of the Indian roads and the Dzire comes out as a hero on the Indian Roads, while the Sail manages to get away with a decent performance. GM’s SmartTech engine is outdone in every department by Maruti Suzuki’s VTT power train. The turning radius of Swift Dzire 4.8 meters is better than that of the Sail’s 5.15 m.

The Sail falls behind even in the mileage aspect and has a mileage of 18.2 Kmpl as per the ARAI cycle against 20.85 KPL of Dzire while Dzire scores high with a mileage of 26.59 Kmpl of diesel against 22.1 KPL mileage of Chevrolet Sail sedan. Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire is now India’s most fuel efficient car in diesel trim outscoring Ciaz.

Exterior:

The Sail reminds of Chevrolet Aveo from certain angles and doesn’t impress much. Dzire looks less impressive and when compared with its predecessor the looks are not inspiring.  Both the cars definitely lag much behind the looks factor but when comes down to narrowing down to the better one. Chevrolet wins the look battle and manages to look like a proper Sedan with considerable space.

Chevrolet Sail now gets beautiful headlights and fog lights with chromic touch and windscreen is now a laminated one. Side of sail sedan has a 12 spoke steering wheel, electrically adjusted ORVM’s; rear side has company’s logo at the centre complimented by basic yet elegant taillights and third brake lights.

Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire looks like an afterthought to a certain extent than a complete design and Swift Dzire looks like a Muscular sedan with large wheels. New Swift Dzire now gets some cosmetic changes like new front single chrome grille, Smoked headlamps, slightly revised bumper and chrome accents on bezel fog lamps. Side profile remains same and rear side is almost same except revised bumper and reverse parking sensors. All these changes makes Dzire slightly better but due to same overall shape it still scores badly in this department.

Interior:

The Interiors of Dzire is inspired from its Predecessor and comes with a beige and black layout. The Front dock has a music player and has a plastic built which looks and feels decent. New update is not only restricted to exterior only cabin also get some goodies like new start/stop button, new upholstery, updated music system with bluetooth connectivity, smart key access and electric folding outer mirrors.

The dual tone design of Sail looks more eye soothing and premium than Dzire, Sail has went through some interiors changes this time like 2 Din audio system with 5 phone pairing system, central console has MFD like digital clock, multi trip meter etc. Gear knob and door handles are now silver chromed which looks leasing than that of Dzire. The design and placement of controls in the Sail are well arranged and are comfortable.

The look being decent but plastic feels cheap for a car from the GMs who are known for their excellent quality and build. The only place where the Dzire falls and the Sail outscores is in the boot space. The boot space in the Dzire is narrow and abruptly designed while the Sail has well-built and very spacious boot space.

Safety:

Maruti Suzuki refreshed Dzire comes with driver and passenger side airbags, ABS with EBD, speed sensitive automatic door lock, reverse parking sensors, 3-point front ELR seat belts and rear 3 point seat belts, security alarm system etc.

On the other hand Chevrolet Sail has driver and front passenger airbags, front seat belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters, speed sensitive auto door unlock, dual horn, ABS+EBD, driver seat belt reminder and many more features.

Both these cars have airbags only for top variants, recently Swift was scored 0 in NCAP crash tests and Dzire is also made on same platform. Being entry level Sedans both the cars have compromised on the Safety Specs.

Final Verdict:

The Dzire is a clear winner in most of the standard Tests and has a better performance when compared with the Sail.  Sail fares slightly in the looks and well-designed interiors plus it outscores Dzire in comfort and space.
