Chevrolet Sail Sedan – Expert Reviews

Chevrolet Sail Specifications and features

According to an expert, this new Sedan is bound to give tough competition to Swift Dzire and Tata Indigo and Toyata Etios because of the cheap price tag and good mileage figure 22.1kmpl. The car also offers decent headroom and legroom for the commuters. Under the hood we can see 1.3l turbo charged Smartech diesel engine or 1.2l Smartech petrol engine. Max power and max torque produced for diesel engine is 78/4000 Ps/rpm and 205Nm/1750rpm. Same way for a petrol engine is 86 Ps/6000 rpm and 113Nm/5000 rpm. The transmissions are 5 –speed manual for both.

On the exteriors the black honeycomb mesh is quite stylish in the shape of a ‘u’ with a blunt ‘v’ at the bottom, coupling with the headlamps which have unique hawk wing style and shooting star type fog lamps, overall the front view is similar to Cruze. The sides are curved at appropriate places to make it aerodynamic. The rear profile is similar to Aveo. The interiors are coloured with shade of Coffee and Beige and the instrument panel is fairly simple and brightly coloured with Blue, Yellow and red LEDs, here Chevy have avoided much sophistication in contrast to Beat. Well the plastic quality could have been better and also the music system and Bluetooth needs to be rectified as it hangs sometimes. But when it comes to storage, the car has multiple pockets here and there to accommodate all your articles and also the boot space is large to carry enough luggage for a weeklong holiday.

The drivability and handling is smooth and impressive, the car is stable on high speeds as well. The suspension is apt for Indian roads, thus relieving you from a bumpy ride. However the NVH level can be reduced. The gears knob is small & rubbery and gives quick slick gear shifts. The turning radius is 5.15 m which is large, Chevy should work on reducing this factor, he suggests. The mileage he got was 16.7 kmpl rather than 22.1 kmpl as boasted by the company. The max speed achievable for the diesel car was 162 km/hr and time to reach from 0-100km/hr was 15.91 sec. The steering is power electrically and is quite light and thus lacks response sometimes. The air conditioning is fine inside the cabin.

Counting on safety, Sail has a safe cage structure, 2 airbags, Anti Locking Braking system coupled with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, seat belt reminder, driver seat adjustment etc. The petrol version is same except for it has 1.2 L Smartech Engine and gave mileage of 13.9 kmpl instead of 18.2 kmpl as marked by company. The max speed achievable in petrol version is 157 kmhr and the time to reach 0-100 kmhr is 15.09 sec.

Overall the car is fine, well you can believe that the mileage improves after the first service. The looks are good and interiors are spacious and shades inside makes one feel at home, some technological aspects need to be added like the rear parking camera and GPS system. Rest is good, the car would give you full value for money. Explore more by taking a test drive.
