Volvo has launched its performance range Polestar in India with the roll out of S60 sedan has been launched in India at Rs. 52.50 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). What AMG is to Mercedes-Benz and RS is to Audi, Polestar is similar to Volvo. This will be sold as brand’s halo product and will take on the Mercedes-Benz AMG C43. Only 30 units have been allotted to India out of 1500 units including Polestar range.

Powering S60 Polestar is a 2.0 litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol motor which is good for making 362bhp power and 470Nm of torque, linked to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Power is sent to all four wheels via a Haldex all wheel drive system. The sedan can accelerate 0-100 km/hr in just 4.7 seconds while hitting a top speed of 250km/hr.

Apart from extra zing under the hood, S60 Polestar gets bigger disc brakes, a larger air intake, new body kit, bigger turbo, a supercharger, higher capacity fuel tank, 80 percent stiffer chassis, 20 inch alloy wheels, Polestar electro assisted power steering wheel, new conrods and camshafts. The Polestar S60 is available in Rebel blue and Onyx black metallic color options.

The interiors are similar to standard model except nubuck/leather wrapped steering wheel, carbon fibre centre console, Charcoal/Offblack in Anthracite Black interior with Charcoal headlining, sports seats, Polestar gear knob and foot and pedal support. For Safety, it features six airbags, collision warning, blind spot detection, adaptive cruise control, park pilot assist, lane departure warning, emergency brake assist (EBA) etc.

Talking about the introduction of the new performance variant Tom von Bonsdorff, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India said “This car is remarkably quick, but it is more than that. It combines Polestar’s 20 years racing pedigree with Volvo’s inherent pragmatism and engineering heritage. It is a racing car that you can use every day of the year, be it track or city roads.”

While used vastly in different areas, this car shares more than just technology as compared to the track car. The core philosophy is the same, developed by people with the same passion. It is about creating performance that can be used in all situations, no matter if it’s about winning a championship or being able to enjoy a safe, functional and fun-to-drive car all year.” he added.
