A test mule of Toyota’s compact SUV ‘Rush’ has been spotted near Kolhapur, Maharashtra packed with full camouflage. However this test mule is being tested for only benchmark purposes might not launch in India any soon or never. Rumors regarding the launch of this compact SUV Rush are not new; way back in Jan 2013 this SUV was imported for Research and development (R&D).

This 7 seater SUV sold in international markets like Indonesia with a 1.5L petrol engine developing 107.5bhp power and 141Nm of peak torque paired to a 5 speed manual and 4 speed automatic gearboxes. There is no Diesel variant available maybe that’s why Toyota has not launched it in India where diesel variant rules the SUV market.

Indian spec Toyota Rush might need a lot of re-engineering and R&D cost due to which it seems an unlikable project for Toyota India. However it was first launched in 2006 and currently it is sold in Chile, Turkey, Malaysia and China.

We think that Toyota could or is developing the new/next GEN Rush SUV keeping in Mind the Indian market.  If Rush does make the Indian roads it might get the 1.5L VVTi petrol motor from Etios sedan and Corolla inspired 1.4L diesel motor. Rush compact SUV will take on Ford Eco Sport and upcoming Maruti XA Alpha and Hyundai ix25.

Apart from Toyota other car makers like Hyundai, Volkswagen, Honda, Ford and Chevrolet are going to enter into this booming compact SUV market. Toyota is reliable brand name
