Tata Tigor is the name of Kite 5 sedan; Launch in March

Tata motors had a fantastic 2016 all thanks to Tiago hatchback which is one of the best selling cars in India. Tata also showcased its sedan sibling at 2016 Auto Expo and people have been eagerly waiting for its launch. Kite 5, Viago, Tiago, these were few speculated names for Tata’s compact sedan. Putting all rumors to an end, Tata has officially confirmed that Tiago based sedan will be called as ‘Tigor’.

Tata is touting it as India’s first ‘Styleback’ and it is likely to be launched in couple of month’s time. When launched, Tigor will be the third product to be based on Tata’s Impact design language. The sedan measures 3995mm in length with a boot capacity close to 300 liters.

The production version of Tigor has been spotted multiple times that showcase car’s sporty profile with D-pillar merging into floating boot. The sedan also sports first in segment integrated roof spoiler with LED stop lamp. The latest spy shots suggest that the sedan will get exclusive color option, five spoke diamond cut alloy wheels, thick chrome bar between the tail lamps, chrome treated window line and black strip on rear bumper.

Though Tigor is expected get similar features to Tiago but being a sedan version we might get to see some more features. The cabin would sport a 5 inch touchscreen infotainment system with USB, video playback, reverse parking display, SMS display and readout. It will get first in segment Juke car app along with MapmyIndia feature.

As far as engines goes, Tigor will share same petrol and diesel powertrains of Tiago. The manual gearbox will be available as standard and it might get AMT transmission right from the launch unlike Tiago hatch. Expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 4.2-6.5 lakh (ex-showroom), it will take on Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Figo Aspire in the segment.

Announcing the name Tata TIGOR, Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “After HEXA, we are speeding towards our next market introduction, the Tata TIGOR which opens a new category of style and attitude in this segment. The break-free design dynamics of Tata TIGOR makes it India’s 1st ‘Styleback’. We will announce its commercial launch soon and are excited to see the IMPACT of the ‘Styleback’ on our customers.
