Tata motors is readying Sporty version of Tiago; could deliver 120bhp

Tata Tiago

Tata motor is reportedly working on the faster version of its current best seller Tiago hatchback. Tata was earlier expected to launch the Bolt Sport which was showcased at 2016 Auto Expo and it was slated to get launched by end of this year. But now Tata has put on hold bolt Sport in favor of sportier Tiago which might be called Tiago Plus when launched.

The bolt has managed to retail just 8000 units in last fiscal which puts Tata motors in dilemma whether to go for the sportier version or not as it will be costlier. Then carmaker diverted its attention towards Tiago which is performing outstandingly well as within three months of its launch the hatch has grabbed over 40,000 bookings with waiting period of 2 months.

Tata Tiago Side View

As things look now, Tiago Sport makes more sense because it is comparatively potent product; it’s affordable and extremely popular. A sporty version would add to the aspirations of the brand for the domestic market.

Tiago Sport was reported to get Bolt’s 1.2 litre four cylinder Revotron engine to churn out 120PS but instead it will now sport turbocharged version of standard 1.2l petrol unit which is expected to dish out power output around 120PS. The same engine will also power the upcoming Nexon Crossover which is slated to have a power figure around 106bhp.

Apart from new engine, Tiago Plus will get tweaked body kit including sporty bumper, new badge etc alongside stiffer damping and lowered suspensions. The interior could be enhanced to follow the sporty theme of the hot hatch with new features like new interior upholstery, seats with contrast stitching, racy aluminium pedals, new trim options etc. The performance oriented Tiago will take on Volkswagen Polo GTI, Abarth Punto and upcoming Baleno RS when launched by the end of this year.
