Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster launched in India; starts at Rs. 81.63 lakh

The German premium sportscar maker Porsche has launched 718 Cayman and Boxster models in India at Rs. 81.63 lakh and Rs. 85.53 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) respectively. Dealerships across the country have started accepting bookings while deliveries are also expected to commence soon. The new models not only come with some striking looks but also wear the iconic nameplates.

Apart from new name fixture, both have ditched the naturally aspirated motors for downsized yet powerhouse four-cylinder turbocharged engines. The 2.0 litre four cylinder engine can make 300bhp power and 380Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed PDK automatic transmission. The car can reach 100km/hr mark from a standstill in just 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 275 km/hr.

The new 718s is claimed to deliver 17.5 Kmpl on highways and approx 11 Kmpl in the city which are great considering for a Sportscar. Porsche claims that steering is 10 percent more direct. To provide better handling both are offered with retuned chassis, flatter rear tyres, wider front and side air dams for aerodynamics.

On the design front, both features Bi-xenon headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights, redesigned alloy wheels, re-profiled LED tail lights with accent strip, wider air intakes and ceramic brakes. LED headlights are offered as an option. On the inside, it gets tweaked dashboard, 918 Spyder based sports steering wheel, eight-speaker audio system 7-inch touchscreen system with Porsche Communication management system (PCM) and voice control. For safety, it continues to get multiple airbags, stability control, traction control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), reverse parking camera, vehicle tracking system plus as standard.

Mr Pavan Shetty, Director Porsche India said at the launch, “The re-launched Cayman and Boxster are the sportiest of all time. It is remarkable how Porsche engineers have evolved the 718 concepts to produce such outstanding increases in power and torque from the newly designed four-cylinder engine, whilst managing substantial improvements in efficiency.”
