Nissan India Readying Ford EcoSport rival; to be Showcased at Delhi Auto Expo 2016

Every car maker wants a piece of Compact SUV pie in the country so Nissan India has decided to join the red hot compact SUV segment with all new compact SUV to take on Ford Eco Sport. For 2015 nothing big has been lined up for Nissan so the Japanese manufacture has started working on compact SUV which is likely to make debut at the 2016 Delhi auto expo.

Nissan’s compact SUV is based on kicks concept shown at last year’s Sao Paulo auto show in October and it will be less than 4 metres. The compact SUV segment kicked off with the launch of premier-Rio but found its true meaning with the launch of Ford Eco Sport in 2013. Since the arrival of Ford Eco Sport this segment have become the most lucrative one for the every car manufacture

In current scenario Nissan has only 2 percent market share in India and aims to take it to 5 percent by 2020. Nissan’s compact SUV will take on Ford Eco Sport and upcoming SUVs from Maruti, Tata and Volkswagen.

Nissan’s Kicks concept has been a joint effort of auto major’s design studios in US, Japan and Brazil.

What’s new in Kicks concept?

  • Muscular front and rear bumpers
  • V-shaped front grille
  • Compact Body shield with sloping roofline
  • Heightened wheel arches
  • Roof rails
  • Orange shade on roof to make it sporty
  • Skin guards
  • 19 inch alloy wheels

Nissan Kicks concept which was showcased at Sao Paolo measure 4399 metres but for India Nissan could cut its length to less than 4 metres to avail tax benefits under excise duty norms.

In terms of power it is likely to get 1.5L diesel engine that is available on various Nissan products but it is not sure that if it will be available with 85 PS or 110 PS guise or both.

Nissan compact SUV to be showcased at next year Delhi auto expo and expect it to launch by mid 2016.
