Continuing the launch spree in 2016, The German automajor BMW has launched the 2016 Mini Cooper S Convertible in India. Priced at Rs. 34.90 lakh (ex-showroom India), the car will be brought into the country via CBU and will lock its horns with Mercedes Benz- A class and Volkswagen beetle and Abarth 595 Competizione in the luxury hatchback segment.

Engine Details:

The convertible is powered by the same engine seen on standard S model, which means it gets 2.0 litre 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol mill good for developing max output of 189bhp@5000-6000rpm and 280Nm of high torque, linked to a 6-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The car can perform 100km/hr sprint from a standstill in just 7.1 seconds while offering the top speed of 233km/hr. In the new Mini you also get multi driving modes which include comfort, efficiency, or sport.

Space and Dimensions:

The new Convertible has grown in size as it is 98mm longer, 44mm wider and 7mm taller than the outgoing model with new dimensions stands at 3850×1727×1415mm. It also offers 28mm longer wheelbase than its predecessor. To keep your baggage and luggage you get 215 liters of decent boot space which is 25 percent more than the last gen model.

Exterior and Interior:

In terms of aesthetics, it carries forward the similar design of standard Cooper S albeit few changes which is a soft roof top which takes approx 18 seconds to open/close. Except this you similar design including signature spherical headlamps with LED daytime running lights, chrome coated grille and tail lamps.

Even on the inside, you get similar Go kart graceful cabin and for the first time it is getting fully automatic electrically powered soft roof top system and rollover protection. The car is fitted with features like wind deflector, Harmon Kardon hi-Fi audio system, multi function leather steering wheel,  8.8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with bluetooth connectivity and touch controller while there is 6.5 inch separate display screen for reverse parking assistance.

With the new Mini Convertible you get range of upholstery options such as carbon black cloth/leather, leatherette carbon black, cloth double stripe carbon black, diamond satellite grey along with optional leather cross punch carbon black, leather cross punch dark truffle, leather lounge satellite grey and leather lounge MINI yours carbon black.

To further enhance the go kart feel, it boasts of LED interior, ambient lighting and projection of MINI’s logo on the driver side when the door is opened.

Colors:

The new Cooper Convertible is available in 13 metallic and non metallic color shades. The Volcanic orange and Pepper white are two non metallic paintwork while Deep blue, Caribbean Aqua, Moonwalk grey, Iced chocolate, blazing red, White silver, Lapisluxury blue, melting silver, thunder grey, British racing green and Midnight black as metallic color shades.

Safety:

Along with the luxury and upmarket cabin, the safety element is also taken care of with the features like dual airbags (Driver and front passenger), ABS, Dynamic traction control (DTC), brake assist, cornering brake control, electric double layer capacitor (EDLC), dynamic stability control, anti-lock braking system (ABS), crash sensor, run flat indicator, brake energy regeneration, 3-point seat belts etc.
