Mercedes-Benz India has launched the diesel avatar of C Class- C 220 CDI today at an event in Pune, Maharashtra. Mercedes launched its petrol Avatar C 200 in November last year for Rs. 40.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Mercedes C 220 CDI is based on same MRA (Mercedes rear wheel Architecture) and taken it design cues from S class. C220 CDI will be imported as CBU route for the initial phase and will commence CKD operations on the later stage.

Price:

The beautiful sedan is priced at Rs. 39.90 lakh for the C 220 CDI style variant and Rs. 42.9 lakh for the Avant-garde version. The price range is almost similar like its petrol variant which was launched in November 2014 for Rs. 40.90 lakhs.

All the prices are ex-showroom Delhi. 

Engine details:

The new C Class diesel is powered by a 2.1L 2143 cc four-cylinder diesel engine that produces 168bhp power@3000-4200rpm and 400Nm torque between 1400-2800rpm. The power is transmitted to rear wheels as it is based on MRA platform via a seven speed DCT torque convertor.

C 220 CDI can accelerate 0-100 km in just 7.4 seconds with the top speed of 233 km/hr and it returns efficient mileage of 19.27 km/l.

C220 CDI is equipped with drive mode selector that includes five driving modes– Comfort, Economy, Sport, Sport+ and individual driving modes.

Space and Dimensions:

New C Class is now 95mm longer, 40mm wider than its predecessor while its height is reduced by 5mm. New C Class now stands at 4686mm in length, 1810mm wide and 1442mm tall. With the wheel base of 2840mm C220 CDI provides a decent amount of space for rear passengers and boot space capacity is now at 480 liters.

Exterior and Interior:

The new C Class borrows its design cues from S class and designed like saloon with large bonnet with short stance, twin slate grille with three-point star at the centre and new LED headlights with daytime running lights which gives front fascia an aggressive look.

Side profile of new C class is based on new design technology with electronically folded OVRM’s, 17 inch 5 spoke alloy wheels, windows with chrome line surrounding, Panoramic sliding sunroof and rear side seems to be inspired by S-class whether it’s tail lights or rear bumper with black diffuser.

New C Class Cabin is a blend of sportiness and inspired by Mercedes S Class and complimented by features like, centre console in high gloss brown wood shade, 8.4touchscreen infotainment computer with touchpad, bluetooth support, internet feature, GARMIN pilot map satellite navigation system, a 13 speaker burmester audio system, twin tuner, rear view camera and three zone climate control.

Apart from entertainment C Class cabin is equipped with LED ambient lighting with three color options and five dimming levels according the lighting mood, Multi-utility steering wheel, ARTICO leather upholstery for cobra shaped seats with different color options, Five round metallic shade air vents looks sporty, two-way climate control system, Central console looks elegant with faux wood finish and all those gismos.

Colors:

C 220 CDI is available in five gorgeous colors- Polar white, Obsidian black, iridium Silver, Citrine brown and Cavansite blue.

Safety:

On Safety front it is loaded with tons of safety features like attention assist, high beam assist plus, 7 airbags, adaptive brake with hill start assist, brake dying in wet, BAS, ESP with dynamic assist, keyless go starting function, ABS, ARS, 3 point seat belts with force limiters, neck-pro head restraints, electric parking brake and reverse parking camera with assistance etc.
