Land Rover new discovery sport, the successor of Freelander has been launched in India at a price tag of Rs. 46.10 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai) for the base variant and the prices goes up to Rs. 62.18 lakh for the top end HSE luxury variant. The Discovery sport is the first member of discovery family which was first revealed in September last year at Paris motor show. The British marquee revealed that it had already received over 300 bookings for the SUV, prior to its launch. It also comes with a warranty of 3 years or 1, 00,000 kms whichever is earlier along with a 3 year standard service pack.

Engine:

Land Rover discovery sport is available in four variants along with a single 2.2l diesel motor available in two tunes- TD4 and SD4. The S, SE and HSE have been presented with TD4 diesel motor that is tuned to deliver max power of 147.5bhp@4000rpm and 400Nm@1750rpm of peak torque.

The top HSE luxury variant gets the same engine but with extra power and torque. The 2.2l SD4 diesel engine produces 187.7bhp power@3500rpm and peak torque of 420Nm@1750. All the variants are paired with a 9-speed ZF automatic transmission and sends power to all wheels via Haldex all wheel drive system.

Space and Dimensions:

One of the special points of new Discovery sport is the space it offers; the SUV is 80mm longer and 91mm taller than the Freelander. It measures at 4600mm in length, 2173mm in width and 1724mm in height with the massive wheelbase of 2741mm.  The luxury SUV is available with 5 as well as 7 seater configurations.

Land Rover New Discovery offers 212mm of ground clearance and 600mm of wading depth (it is a parameter at which a vehicle can operate in water) along with 25 degrees of approach angles and 31 degrees of departure angles.

Colors:

The first member of discovery sport is available in seven paint shadesIndus Silver, Fuji White, Scotia Grey, Firenze Red, Loire Blue, Aintree green and Santorini black.

Exterior and Interior:

When it comes to design, company has kept the typical styling of Land Rover series with high nose accompanied by sculpted grille, adaptive xenon headlamps with LED DRLs and large honeycomb grille with faux silver skid. The new discovery Sport looks stylish and sport as compared to boxy and ageing Freelander. The rear is heavily influenced by the Evoque concept thanks to the elongated circular LED tail lights, muscular bumpers with reflectors and two exhaust pipes.

Even on inside the styling is very similar to other Land Rover models along with plethora of buttons. The simple vertical dashboard houses an 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system with multiple SUB connectivity and voice based navigation system. You also get 825W Meridian surround audio system with 17 speakers, two zone climate control with air quality sensing and ambient lighting.

The cabin also sport features like Panoramic Sunroof, leather upholstery, 10 way electric front seats with memory function, recline seats for the 2nd row, rear seat entertainment, optional premium carpet mats, customer preferred interior mood lighting and many more.

Safety:

Considering the Land Rover tag, it comes with some top notch safety features like front airbags along with side curtain airbags, Hill descent control, emergency brake assist, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brake force distribution), hill start assist and electronic traction control. Company is also offering 24×7 roadside assistance programme and Land Rover’s terrain response technology with General, (Grass/Gravel/Snow), Mud, Ruts, and Sand modes for shaper steering and flatter cornering.

It also has blind spot, monitoring, reverse parking camera, park assist for parallel and perpendicular parking aid and lane departure warning. It has also received 5-star rating from NCAP.
