Mercedes-Benz E-Class@ 48,50 -1,29 crore

Mercedes-Benz has been redefining and restoring the definition of luxury in india for about 17 years now. But with arrival of other Germans in market, Mercedes had to raise the bar, which they have been doing in total luxury and now again, they have proved their worth with the launch of their new car in an all upgraded avatar! The new Mercedes-Benz E class.

The Merc E had been in india since 1990s an have had an army of admirers since then. Let’s find out what new, this car really has to offer this time, after so many years of its existence in the modern times.

Well, comparing to the last version, this E is not at all-new car. What’s new is the whole styling. From up front, its a trick to tell this is the same E under the skin with the twin quad headlamps have been over the single unit ones with daytime running LEDs moving up from the bumper, into the the integrated headlamps. Headlamps are now synced with the new Merc design scheme and immediately sets apart the new model from the previous ones. The three-point star sits in the middle of that wide grille with two horizontal slats, which is now illuminated (as an optional feature).

In profile, the new car is just the old one with sharp sweeping lines running all across the the way to the C-pillar. At the back, Benz LED and optical fibre technology upshifts new-shape tail-lamps. And apart from these altered bumper and, the designers haven’t messed much with the rear. And that completes the car in looking department.

Inside, the cabin has also got a nice treatment. The dashboard is wrapped in punchy and pure black or beige leather, covering the seats as well. The dashboard is all sparkled with an aluminium-finish strip running along the width of the dash. Even the centre console is also aluminium-finished. Plus, there’s the option of a wood-finish strip instead of aluminium. The new E also sports an updated COMAND system to deal with all your music and Bluetooth connectivity needs along with a bulit-in Sat Nav, reversing camera as standard, and park assist for automatic parking.

With total size and luxury, the front seats remain big and comfortable, programmed with memory settings along with electric adjustment. The rear couch too, is comfortable with enough-decent thigh support. Adding rear AC vents with dedicated temperature control.  And ofcourse, lots of small and smart features splattered all around the cabin to serve you on your command.

With this latest variant of the E, Merc has cut down the number of engine options. Comes in two variants with specifications as

- E200 GCI with 2.0 litre petrol engine producing 182 Bhp and 300 Nm.

- E250 CDI Elegance with 2.2 litre turbo-charged diesel burner churning out 202 Bhp and 500 Nm.

Power delivery is linear with an undated 7-speed auto ‘box replacing the conventional 5-speeder.

The car is well controlled and handles and rides superbly, even with 18″ wheels wrapped in low-profile rubber. And car is a blend of power and efficiency with a drag time of 7.5 secs from standstill to 100 and a top speed of about 242 kph.

Mileage Meter -

The petrol engine will deliver you with a decent 8.6 kpl in city and 9.4 kpl on highway.

The diesel gulps a litre to crawl around 8.2 km in city and stays efficient on highways with 11.2 kpl.
