Mercedes-Benz much anticipated GLC class SUV has finally made its way to the Indian market at a starting price of Rs. 50.7 lakh (ex-showroom Pune). Showcased at 2016 Auto Expo, it will go head to head to against Audi Q5 and BMW X3 and it will bridge the gap between entry level GLA and GLE. The first batch of the SUV will be brought via CBU route and it is a part of 12 launches that Mercedes is planning to launch in the Indian market.

Price:

The Luxury SUV is available with both petrol GLC300 and diesel GLC 220D engines with prices of Rs. 50.9 lakhs and Rs. 50.7 lakhs respectively.

Engine Details:

The Petrol version features a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit that churns out 241bhp of max power and 370Nm of high torque while diesel bears a 2193cc turbocharged engine that belts out 170bhp of power and 400Nm of torque. Both engines are linked to the new 9G Tronic automatic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels thanks to Mercedes’ 4MATIC four-wheel-drive technology.

The luxury compact SUV is claimed to achieve 100km/hr mark in just 6.5 seconds with the top speed of 222km/hr in petrol avatar while in diesel it can accelerate 0-100km/hr in 8.3 seconds with the top speed of 210km/hr. Both the cars come with the options of five driving modes- Individual, Eco, comfort, Sport and Sport+.

Space and Dimensions:

The GLC measures 4656 mm in length, 2096 mm in width and 1644 mm in height and sits on the wheelbase is 2874 mm long which is approximately 100mm more than sedan sibling translating into more space inside the cabin. The SUV bears a boot space of 550 liters, which is further expandable up to 1600 liters by folding down the second row seats.

Exterior and Interior:

The overall is simple and similar to other latest models of Mercedes-Benz and gives resemblance of its sedan siblings especially from the front. The huge triple slat front housing the three star logo and sleek headlamps with LED DRLs look smart. The flared wheel arches and subtle side design makes it more sort of premium wagon rather than a huge SUV. At rear, it boasts new wider LED tail lamps and revised tail gate.

Step inside and it’s all about luxury and it has almost same features we’ve seen on the sedan. The SUV is seen with three zone climate control with separate controls, leather diapered dashboard with number of options to choose from, a 7 inch screen with Command Online system, Touchpad and it doubles up with reverse parking display. It also gets 20CD audio system, Garmin navigation system, panoramic sunroof, full LED ambient lighting with five dimming levels and three color choices, roller sun blinds on all doors, automatic wipers, engine start/stop button, rear AC vents with three airflow modes, front seats with memory function and 4-way lumbar support, ARTICO leather upholstery and much more.

Colors:

The Mercedes Benz GLC SUV is gracing the floor in five elegant color shades- Diamond white bright, Citrine brown, Iridium Silver, Hyacinth red metallic and Obsidian black.

Safety:

The SUV received 5-Start Euro NCAP rating but besides it comes with plethora of safety features such as tyre pressure monitoring system, seven airbags, adaptive brake lights, attention assist, parking assist, reverse parking camera, controlled downhill descents with downhill speed regulation (DSR), ABS, ESP, off-road suspension complimented by high ground clearance, active parking assist with Parktronic, pre-safe occupant protection system off-road settings including off-road, incline and slippery.
