The 2017 Mercedes CLA, brand’s most affordable offering which made its global debut in March earlier this year has been launched in India. The baby sedan available across three trims comes at a starting price of Rs. 31.40 lakh for CLA200 style diesel trim. Updates have been given to both exterior and interior in the form of new design and added features. The CLA has only one rival in India i.e. Audi A3 while BMW 1 series is not launched yet. Additionally, the facelift gets road and track package that includes a carbon spoiler, sporty liver and red hub cover on the alloy wheels. This additional package can set you back at Rs. 1.72 lakh over the ex-showroom price of the model.
While Merc CLA gets an option of 11 engines internationally we get just only two. Powering CLA 200 sport is a 2.0 litre four cylinder petrol engine that develops 184bhp [email protected] and 300Nm of [email protected] Transmission duties are performed by a seven speed DCT gearbox. The engine propels car to perform 0-100km sprint in just 7.1 seconds with an electronically limited speed of 240 km/hr.
The CLA d 200 sport on the other hand gets its juice from a 2143cc that delivers 136bhp [email protected] and 300Nm [email protected] Power is sent to front wheels via a seven speed DCT gearbox while it can reach 100km/hr mark from a standstill in just 9 seconds while hitting a top speed of 220km/hr. The CLA sedan is bundled with DYNAMIC SELECT with 4 four drive modes: Comfort, Sport, eco & Individual.
Space and Dimensions:
Despite luxurious experience CLA offers oodles of space as it measures 4630mm in length, 1777mm in width and 1432mm in height. The 2699mm of wheelbase translates into decent amount of space for the occupants. The space is accompanied by 470 liters of boot space which can swallow 5-6 bags with ease.
Exterior and Interior:
Visual alterations include a new updated set of projector headlamps that are full LED while the daytime running light too receives a minor tweak. The CLA facelift now flaunts a diamond effect radiator front grille with chrome stared logo, reprofiled front bumper with horizontal chrome accent gives front fascia a tinge of aggressiveness. The side is similar to the outgoing version including the 17 inch alloy wheels. Coming to the rear, you similar chrome strip on rear bumper inter connecting the two tail pipes and new LED tail lamps with updated detailing.
Like exterior, cabin too received minor nip and tuck in the form of new 8.0 inch touchscreen system with Android auto, Apple car play, GPS navigation and in-built Smartphone integration with bluetooth. It also gets new instrument cluster and chrome detailing on control switches while other goodies include automatic climate control, electric seats, leather upholstery, automatic rain closing feature for panoramic sunroof and much more.
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA sedan can be had in five paintwork– Cirrus white, Polar silver, mountain grey, Cavansite blue and Jupiter red.
Mercedes’ most affordable sedan is brimmed with safety tech like six airbags, ESP (electronic stability program) with acceleration skid control (ASR), attention assist, reverse camera, ABS, tyre pressure monitoring system, adaptive braking with hill start assist, brake dying in the wet, Brake Assist (BAS) with brake servo assistance when emergency braking is detected, 3-point seat belts for all 5 seats, ISOFIX child seat at rear, cruise control with speedtronic variable speed limiter, central locking with interior switch & crash sensor, automatic-locking doors with emergency opening etc.
