Nissan India’s low cost brand Datsun has finally rolled the entry level hatch Redi Go which will take on the likes of Renault Kwid, Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Alto and Tata Nano. It launched in five variants- D, A, T, T (O) and S with starting price of Rs. 2.39 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). Bookings for the Redi-Go are already open for a token amount of Rs. 5000 at Datsun dealerships across the country. The hatch is available with a standard two year warranty or unlimited kilometer with roadside assistance program while there is an optional package available which extends the warranty to three years.

Price:

The base D variant is priced at Rs. 2.39 lakh which undercuts its Alto by 10K and Renault Kwid by a good margin of Rs. 23,000. The top spec S variant goes way up to Rs. 3.34 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) which makes the most affordable 800cc car in India.

Engine Details:

The Redi-go is based on CMF-A (Common modular family) platform and borrows the same motor that powers Kwid. The 799cc Petrol motor develops 53bhp power@5678rpm and 72Nm of peak torque@4386rpm, paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Redi-Go can return an ARAI certified mileage of 25.17 Kmpl and can make 0-100 sprint in just 16 seconds with the top speed of 140km/hr.

Space and Dimensions:

The Redi-Go measures 3429mm in length, 1560mm in width, 1541mm of height and has a wheelbase of 2348mm. The hatch offers 222 liters of boot capacity which fall short against Kwid’s 300 liters though Redi-Go sits on best in class ground clearance of 185mm. The space at rear seems to be insufficient for three adults.

Exterior and Interior:

The RediGO shares its design cues from the concept car showcased at 2014 Auto Expo, same huge honeycomb front grille, large headlamps and front bumper with LED daytime running lights. The side reflects tall boy stance of the hatch complimented by high ground clearance of 185mm.

The cabin is basic as one expects from an entry level hatchback and features also seems to be constricted. The dashboard is embellished with grey and beige combination while for features top variants get a single DIN basic audio system with Piano black surround, comfortable front seats with integrated headrests, Air conditioning etc. The Redi Go is available five customization packages as follows:-

Colors:

The Redi-Go is offered in five color options- Silver, Lime, Ruby, Grey and White.

Safety:

While previous cars of the brand set the benchmark for being one of the most unsafe cars, Datsun will try to change it. The top spec S variant sports drive side airbag as standard while other variants are still deprived of this feature even as option. The brand is offering optional safety package- PRO-SAFE7 which includes energy absorbing steering, wider view of road, high strength body shell to absorb impact, superior suspension and driver side airbag.
