Comparison: 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift v/s Baleno

Maruti Suzuki launched its third generation Swift at the Auto Expo 2018 recently. The Swift has done beautifully well in India and it is the best-selling car of the company. The past success has positively affected the bookings of the new generation Swift with about 50,000 orders already been placed. For a person who is looking to buy a hatchback between INR 5 lakh to INR 8 lakh price range, there are two options to choose from that is the new Swift and the popular Baleno. Both these hatchbacks are stylish and have many features loaded. Here is the comparison between both the cars.

Swift and Baleno

 Engine and Transmission

Both the car have the same petrol and diesel engine. The 1.2-litre K Series petrol motor develops 81.8bhp of power and 113Nm of torque for the new Swift. While for the Baleno it produces 83.1bhp and 115Nm of peak torque. Both the car runs with a five-speed manual transmission. The automatic gearbox in the Swift is a five-speed AMT while the Baleno gets five-speed CVT unit.

The diesel engine is the 1248cc DDiS unit which produces 74bhp of power and 90Nm of peak torque in both the vehicles. Both car’s diesel units are mated to five-speed manual transmission. The Baleno diesel models are not offered with automatic transmission gearbox.

Exterior

Maruti Suzuki Swift gets a youthful stance. Its appearance, flowing lines and a sporty rear is something that would surely woo the youthful audience. The black A-pillar gives a wraparound glass house effect to the car and the C-pillar mounted rear door handles add a sporty touch.

For the Baleno, it is longer than the Swift with its height being slightly low. The cars get projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, ORVMs and fog lamps.

Interior

Both Swift and Baleno have black themed dashboards with silver accents. However, the Swift gets a sportier theme. The design of the air-con vents, centre console, and instrument cluster hood is pointed and edgy in the Swift. It also gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel that adds to the car’s overall young appeal.

The Baleno has curvaceous panels and premium feel. The centre console is gifted with a premium touchscreen infotainment system that is flanked by AC vents on either side. The Baleno’s cabin looks much more stylish than the Swift.

Price

The new Swift is priced from INR 4.99 lakh to INR 8.29 lakh while the Baleno is from INR 5.36 lakh to INR 8.50 lakh, all prices ex-showroom Delhi.
