BMW India commences production of new 5-series; launch on 29th June

BMW India is all pepped to introduce 2017 5-series in India on 29th June 2017. The German automaker has started the production of the luxury sedan at its Chennai Plant and will be built as completely knocked down unit. Unveiled in October 2016, it looks like a squeezed version of luxurious 7-series. BMW dealerships have started accepting bookings for the sedan with token amount of Rs. 2-3 lakhs.

The new Luxury saloon is expected to be offered in three variants: 530i, 520d and 530d M Sport and will take on the likes of Jaguar XF, Volvo S90 and Mercedes-Benz E class in the Indian market. The new 5-series is 100kg lighter as it is built on brand’s new cluster architecture platform (CLAR).

The sedan is now 36mm longer, 2mm taller, 6mm wider and offers 7mm of longer wheelbase. The 5-series measures 4935 mm in length, 1868 mm wider and 1466 mm taller.

BMW hasn’t revealed any details regarding engine of Indian spec saloon but it is likely to get a 2.0 litre diesel engine that makes 187bhp power and 400Nm of torque, 2.0l petrol mill which is rated for 249bhp and 350Nm of torque. The top end model 530d M sport is rated to deliver 262bhp power and 620Nm torque. All engines will come mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox as standard.

BMW sedan will sport with an iDrive 6.0 infotainment system with gesture control and voice recognition, 4-zone auto climate control, electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, remote parking system, 600 watt Harmon Kardon sound system with 16 speakers. The quality of plastics and upholstery has been improved accompanied by wooden finished veeners and beige leather treatment on dashboard, door trims and seats.
