Maruti Suzuki has finally revealed the third-generation of the best selling sedan, the Dzire in India. The car will be launched on 16 May 2017 in four grades with both petrol and diesel powertrains. This is the first time in the history of Maruti that the compact sedan will be launched before the hatchback. The car is based on a new platform which also underpins 2017 Swift and Baleno hatchback.

Bookings for the Dzire have already started at brand’s authorised dealerships across India at a token amount of Rs. 5000. Deliveries are likely to begin immediately after the official launch. The new Dzire is 40mm wider adding 20mm and 30mm additional front and rear shoulder room. The boot space has been increased by 66 litres to 376 litres from 310 litres. Apart from shedding down Swift badge, new Dzire has also gone down by 105 kgs for the petrol while diesel variants now weigh 85 kgs less.

On the design front, new Dzire has more flowing lines and looks more cohesive. The highlight includes new LED headlamps with LED DRLs, bolder hexagonal front grille with chrome accents and new air dam. It now rides on 15-inch multi spoke alloy wheels while rear flaunts integrated boot with spoiler, revised air dam flanked by new tail lamps with LED guide lights.

Overall, new Dzire looks well balanced and much more attractive. 2017 Dzire comes with six colour options- Sherwood brown, Oxford blue, Silky Silver, Arctic white, Magma grey and Gallant Grey. New Dzire is 3995mm long, 1735mm wide and 1515mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2450mm. It offers 163mm of ground clearance which is lower by 7mm as compared to the current generation model.

The cabin is adorned with dual tone beige black upholstery with faux wood inserts, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple car play and Android auto, new flat bottom multi-function steering wheel with leather treatment, automatic climate control with rear ac vents, new switchgear etc. As for the safety, dual front airbags, ABS with EBD is expected to come as standard across all variants.

Powering it will the same set of engines of the ongoing model- 1.2l K series petrol and 1.3l DDis diesel engine. Transmission duties are taken care by a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox with both engines. Once launched, it will compete with Tata Tigor, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, and Ford Aspire in India. With the new design and feature, addition expects price increase up to Rs. 30,000-40,000.
