2017 BMW 5-series launched in India at Rs. 49.90 lakh

BMW has finally launched all new 5-series in India at a starting price of Rs. 49.90 lakh (ex-showroom Post-GST). The Seventh generation sedan is available in four variants- 530i, 520d Sports Line, 520d Luxury Line and the 530d M Sport. The sedan is based on OKL (Oberklasse) platform which was first used in new 7-series. The platform comprises of aluminum, magnesium, carbon fiber and high-strength steel. The competition would come against the likes of Audi A6, Jaguar XF, and Mercedes-Benz E-class LWB.

Besides lighter platform, new 5-series is longer and more spacious than the outgoing model. To be precise, the sedan is 30mm longer, 7mm wider and 15mm taller than the ongoing model. In addition, the wheelbase has grown by 15mm.

On the outside, it flaunts BMW’s signature kidney grille with chrome underlining, LED headlamps with optional LED lights, anti-dazzle high-beam with a viewing range of 500 meters. Sides have floating lines that meet till tail lights, air breather on both front doors and new alloy wheels. Coming to rear, sporty bumper, LED tail lights, integrated spoiler on the boot lid and chrome touch adds persona to the new 5-series.

The BMW-5 series is accompanied by a range of premium features such as 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and voice command. It also gets wireless charging for the Smartphone, cruise control, climate control, 10-inch display systems at the rear, ambient lighting, leather upholstery, electric seats with massage functions, advanced I-drive system.

For the Indian market, 2017 BMW 5-series comes in three variants- 530i which utilizes a 2.0-liter petrol engine that makes 248bhp power and 350Nm, it can make 0-100km/hr in 6.2 seconds with a top speed of 250km/hr. The diesel variants get its juice from a 2.0l 4-cylinder engine which churns out 187bhp power and 400Nm of torque between 1750-2500rpm. It can accelerate 0-100 km/hr in 7.7 seconds with a top speed of 250km/hr.

The 530d comes with a 6-cylinder 3.0-litre engine which belts out 262bhp power and 620Nm torque. All engines are linked to an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
